C.S. Lewis once said, “We read to know we’re not alone.” This is certainly true for me. I read to know I’m not alone. I relish in rich language, marvel in words and their meanings, and improve my own writing. Each month, two books (one fiction and one non-fiction) move into my bedroom and wait at my night stand, waiting to be opened, devoured, and played with at the end of a long day.
Here are just a few of my book recommendations on the simple life for your enjoyment.
- May Sarton‘s Journals: I knew a Phoenix, Plant Dreaming Deep, Journal of a Solitude, A World of Light, The House by the Sea, Recovering: A Journal, At Seventy, A Journal, Writings on Writing, After the Stroke, May Sarton–A Self-Portrait
- On Walden Pond by Henry David Thoreau
- Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman
- The Gift of An Ordinary Day by Katrina Kenison
- The Journal Keeper, a memoir by Phyllis Theroux
